Chevron finds more gas in Greater Gorgon area

Chevron’s $43 billion Gorgon project gets a lift and improvement after the discovery of gas in the Greater Gorgon area in the Carnarvon Basin. Chevron is the operator of the permit with a 50 per cent interest. Construction of Gorgon project is underway with first gas planned for 2014. The project is a joint venture between Chevron, ExxonMobil and Shell. Chevron recently signed agreements with  Japanese utility Kyushu Electric Power Co.

Woodside might take Legal Action against construction workers at Pluto Project

Woodside Petroleum Ltd. and its contractors at the Pluto project in Western Australia will consider bringing lawsuits against construction workers to recover losses caused by a strike that’s been declared illegal.

Around 3,000 workers at the Pluto Oil and Gas Project worth A$13 billion are still on strike. Do you think that this can jeopardize investment in the oil and gas industry and hurt ties with investors as Woodside claims.

Avoca Resources Ltd is developing a second underground gold mine at its Higginsville project in Western Australia

According to AAP, Avoca said in a statement on Wednesday it had a new reserve estimate for the Chalice deposit at Higginsville of 720,000 tonnes, grading 5.1 grams per tonne (g/t) and containing 118,000 ounces of gold.

European Union will investigate a plan by the world’s No. 2 and No. 3 iron ore miners, Rio Tinto and BHP Billiton Ltd. to combine some operations because EU suspect it could damage competition.

The European Commission said it would examine whether the companies’ plan to pool iron ore mining in western Australia would affect the global prices or supply for iron ore transported by sea.

Woodside Petroleum Ltd., operator of the A$13 billion ($11.8 billion) Pluto liquefied natural gas project in Western Australia, says it made a discovery during drilling to find fuel for an expansion of the venture.

Gas has been found in the Noblige-1 well over a gross interval of about 300 meters, Woodside said in a statement to the Australian stock exchange today.

Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Petroleum Navid Qamar announced finalization of a major gas contract between Pakistan and Iran after meeting with Iranian oil officials, yesterday.

The Pakistani official said Islamabad and Tehran are posed to sign an accord for the construction of a pipeline next week. The proposed pipeline is 2,775 km long and dubbed as the Peace Pipeline, connecting Iran-Pakistan and India. However, for the time being India is reluctant to join the contract because of New Delhi’s concerns over its safety and some unresolved border issues with Pakistan.
